March 14 is the International Day of Mathematicse. On this day, many different events around the world celebrate the beauty and importance of mathematics.
To celebrate the beauty of mathematics and to highlight its importance, UNESCO declared March 14 as the International Day of Mathematics in November 2019. Already recognized as Pi Day in many countries, the 14th of March is named after the significant number π, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14. All over the world, fascinating events and exciting lectures take place and creative ideas are explored.
The motto being celebrated for the 2022 International Day of Mathematics is "Mathematics Unites". There is a Global Online Celebration with talks in multiple languages.
The International Day of Mathematics homepage, sponsored by the Klaus Tschira Foundation, is the central hub for information surrounding news, events and celebrations.
The Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation (HLFF) wants to join the worldwide celebrations with a free online film screening of “Colors of Math” at 8 p.m. (CET/GMT+1). The director Ekaterina Eremenko and the portrayed mathematicians Prof. emer. Dr. Jean-Michel Bismut (Shaw Prize 2021) and Prof. Dr. Günter M. Ziegler (president of Freie Universität Berlin), will be available for a live Q&A session afterwards.
