A year without conferences? How the coronavirus pandemic could change research

As scientific meetings worldwide are cancelled (including our AlumNode Get-Together) researchers are rethinking how they network — a move that some say is long overdue.

"Nature" magazine discusses the risks and chances of cancelling events like conferences. What do conferences really mean for scientists and how can digital plattforms change general meeting concepts?

In fact, many organizers and participants have turned to online platforms as a way to share work, creating virtual conferences that mimic at least some parts of a physical meeting.
